Why Gina the Giraffe Needed a Scarf
Written by Sona and Jacob, Illustrated by Sona and Jacob,

Gina was a young giraffe
And was she proud of
her long neck,
She could see much further
than anybody else
And give the countryside
a frequent check.
Nothing went on
without her knowing
About it and
everything else, too,
Oh, was she a curious giraffe
Who had most of the
jungle in her purview!
Page 2
Now Gina's neck was indeed
a wonderful thing
No other animal had
such a plus,
It wasn't her long legs
that did the trick
It was her neck which
was a real bonus!
When Gina needed to reach
for the juicy young leaves
That were sure to be found
on the top of the trees,
All she needed to do was
stretch her neck
And with her long tongue it was a breeze.
Page 3
All the animals
admired the ease
And called her
"Gina with the magic stem",
They all made her
do many tricks
To see how far she
could stretch that gem.
Page 4
Now that you know
all about Gina
Or have I told you all?
That she had a long neck
and loved juicy leaves
And had many a friend
and admirer to call.
And she loved to play
hide and seek
With all her animal friends,
And her favorite part
of the jungle
Was that special spot
where the stream bends.
Page 5
That's enough I think
For I am bursting you know,
To tell you about
something that happened
That was funny
and a bit awful, too.
One morning as Gina
came out to feed
On the juicy leaves on
the top of the tallest tree,
She stretched her neck
and oh no no...
There was such a groan
from the tall beauty.…
Page 6
She let out such a loud ouch!
And then another groan
and a terrible moan,
She called for help as
loudly as she could
But it was too early
and she was all alone.
Page 7
No! Here was somebody else,
up early too
Squeaky Squirrel, looking
for some nuts,
She saw what happened
and rushed over
And said hold on,
no ifs or buts.
"I see that you have stretched
a bit too far
And your long neck
is very hurt, I suggest
you take it a little easy
While I figure out what's best,
don't exert."
Page 8
"I think it's best we
go to the Doc
I hope he's up early, too,
For this is a tall problem
And I sure don't know
what to do."
Page 9
"Here we are at the Doc's
Doctor Chimpanzoo,
are you up?
Here's Gina with a
stretched neck
She definitely needs
an expert checkup."
Page 10
"Let me see, come over here
I shall need a ladder, for sure,
Move just a little to the left
And I see that I will have to
climb up some more."
Page 11
"A giraffe with a
stretched neck
That doesn't happen
often over here,
Well Gina, I think we
can fix this
You will need a bit of
rest, my dear."
Page 12
"And this pill for three
days should be good
And an ointment
that you can rub,
Up and down your
long stretched neck
And cover it up like an Arab.
Off you go to
the Hippo's Pharmacy
And get your prescription
made out,
And you should be alright in
three day's time
Of that I have not
a single doubt."
Page 13
So off they went,
Gina and Squeaky
One little mite and
one tall hurt being,
Off to the Hippo's
for pills and rubs
Oh! Gina needed
no persuading.
Page 14
"Who will rub this for me?"
asked Gina.
"I can do it everyday,"
Squeaky offered,
"I can run up and
down your neck
And it will be done,"
she proffered.
Page 15
Gina was glad of the
help I must say
She even managed a smile,
And when all her friends
came to see her
She was wearing a scarf,
as long as a mile.
Page 16
What's the scarf for?"
asked Blippo Hippo
"And where did you find
something that long?"
"It makes you look rather
strange," said Ellie
the Elephant
And Rocko Rhino said,
"Do you have to
wear it lifelong?"
Page 17
"No, no, no, no, only
for three days
While my neck recovers,
And then I can take it off
And make for all of
you some bedcovers.
Page 18
They all laughed and
left Gina to rest
And Squeaky came
over once more...
She ran up and down
the giraffe's neck
Rubbing ointment
till she was sore.
Page 19
She gave Gina her
medicines, too,
And made her retire
for the night,
"Let's do this for three
days like the Doc said
And then you will be
perfectly alright."
Page 20
Three days did Squeaky
do her job
She was really good,
the sweet little tyke,
And she wrapped up Gina
in her scarf
And made her eat all the
things she did like.
Page 21
And three days later Gina
was good as new
She took a walk and
chewed on some leaves,
She even stretched her
neck and oh!
It was perfectly all right,
would you believe!
Page 22
She thanked Squeaky from
the bottom of her heart
And did indeed make
bedcovers for her friends,
With the scarf that she
had wrapped round her neck
And what do you know...
they all used them
over weekends!
