Page 1
Ellie, the elephant had a trunk
Like all elephants do,
And she had really big ears
And really pretty eyes too.
Page 2
Ellie loved to play with
her friends
In the park, beside
the stream
Down by the big trees
Oh! It was such a dream
Page 3
They chased each other
And played hide and seek
Marbles, jump-rope,
hopscotch,
All through the week
Page 4
They had so much fun
The lil' jungle tots
Playing together
all day the nutty
animal crackpots
Page 5
Ellie loved her friends
And they loved her too
But that's not what
this story's about…
Oh! I gotta tell you...
Page 6
Brace yourself,
and I'll let you in
On something about Ellie
She hated having a bath
Oooh! The little elephant
was so smelly
Page 7
Her Momma tried telling her
That decent elephants
have a bath
Ellie wouldn't listen to her
And instead went on
the warpath!
Page 8
"I won't bathe," she said
"No Momma, I surely
will not dip
My lovely self into
the cold stream
That's not at all very hip!"
Page 9
"I just hate to go in
And splash about
like a chipmunk
No, no, no water for me
Not even on my trunk!"
Page 10
"You'll smell terrible,"
said Momma
"And nobody will play with you
You will have germs all over
So, bathe my darling, do!"
Page 11
But Ellie just tossed her head
What a bad little elephant!
She should have listened
to her mother
You'll know why in a moment
Page 12
A day passed and then two
And Ellie began to smell,
She had germs all over
'Coz she didn't bathe,
well, well, well...
Page 13
She went to the park to play
With Blippo, Rocko
and the lot,
She wanted to swing
and slide and do the seesaw
And heaven know what not...
Page 14
Here was Rocko
on the seesaw
He waved to Ellie to join him,
But when she came over
Rocko's face was very grim.
Page 15
He could smell something bad
And it was definitely
coming from Ellie,
Oh he had never seen
And elephant that
was so smelly.
Page 16
He got off and ran away
Saying he needed to
help his mum,
But Ellie knew that
was not true
So what was the matter
with her chum?
Page 17
Gina saw Rocko run away
And asked Ellie to join her
at the swing,
But when the elephant
got there Gina knew
somebody needed
a good scrubbing
She ran off too, like
Rocko the rhino
As fast as her long legs
would take her,
For how do you tell a
friend she's smelly
And that you need
a little breather.
Page 18
Blippo was puzzled by
all this action
And asked Ellie to join
him as he slid,
Down the giant slide,
that he loved so much
That little bubble-headed
hippo kid.
Ellie went up to him
And Blippo smelt her, too,
What was the matter with Ellie
Smelling so terrible. Pooh!
Page 19
So Blippo scooted, too
And so did the
monkey twins,
Leaving Ellie a
little teary-eyed
Oh! I'll show them,
the rude bumpkins!
Page 20
She ran home to her Momma
"They won't play with me,"
she said
"They are so rude, so mean
Even Rocko's a big blockhead"
"Is that surprising?"
said her Momma
"You smell like a
dish gone bad
Didn't I tell you,
you gotta scrub
And have a bath, if I may add."
Page 21
She hauled Elllie
to the stream
And gave her a good scrub,
And then little Ellie found
That a bath was better
than a snub.
Page 22
Now sweet smelling Ellie plays
Happily with her pals,
And you know why they
wink at each other
When there's talk
of smelly gals!
