A Bit of Bread for Blippo Bubblehead

Little Blippo was a hippo
And my! He loved bread so
One fine morning,
he sat up in his bed
And sorted out the thoughts
in his little big head
Page 2
"Mamma I'd like
some bread today
Brushing my teeth,
I shall be on my way.
Off to the
baker's I will go
And get some
bread, in a mo'."
Page 3
So he set off in a trot
For he had bread
to be bought
Lovely bread, ooooh!
Lovely bread
There was nothing
else in head.
Page 4
Rocky rhino stopped
him and said
"Where are you going,
you bubble-head?"
"To buy some bread,"
said little Blippo
"I have no time, off I go."
Page 5
Gina Giraffe saw
him running past
On his fat legs, very fast.
She raised an eyebrow
and rolled her eyes
A speeding hippo,
what a surprise.
Page 6
Ellie saw him streaking by
Without as much as a "Hi,"
Now that's no way
to treat a friend
Especially one
that's an elephant.
Page 7
The monkey twins
were equally shocked
When the ground below
their feet rocked.
Blippo ran past the bears, too
Oh what an earthshaking do!
Page 8
At the baker's did he stop
Up the steps did he hop,
Stepped inside,
huffing and puffing
Sounded like an engine
that was chuffing.
Page 9
The baker asked,
"What would you like?
What can I get you,
you young tyke?"
"Bread lovely bread I say,
That's better than
a sunny day."
"Milk, sweet,
with raisins or nuts?
Tell me now,
no ifs and buts."
"Nutty bread will be just fine
Pack it up and it's all mine"
Page 10
The baker put it into a bag
And off went Blippo,
without any lag.
The monkey twins
were the first to go
"Stop!" they said to little Blippo.
Page 11
"What have you got there,
big little friend
You did run as if
it were the end."
"Some nutty bread
is what I have got
At Billy the Baker's,
that's what I bought!"
Page 12
"Oh! It smells good for sure
Can't we have some
and a little more?"
"I can give you some,
but no more
I must have my bread,
that's for sure."
So he gave them some,
sure as day
And then he went
along his way,
Ellie and Gina, too,
got some bread
And Blippo was
counting in his head.
Page 13
Two slices here
and four more there
Four to Ellie and
six to Mrs. Bear,
Rocky wanted some
bread, for sure
And when Blippo
reached home,
there was no more.
Page 14
Mamma asked him
what he had got
At the baker's
what had he bought.
An empty bag
is all Blippo had
And that was really,
really sad.
Page 15
As he told Mamma
the whole story
A tale that was
all sad and gory
Of all the animals
who took away
All the nutty bread,
better than a sunny day.
Page 16
Mamma laughed and
gave him more money
"Off you go again,
my little honey,
And don't stop on
your way back
Just run up and down,
don't be slack"
Page 17
And he was off,
like a rocket
With some more
money in his pocket,
And some more
nutty bread did he buy
And with it in
his arms did he fly.
Page 18
All that the other
animals saw was a blur
Just hands and
feet and no fur
"What was that?"
is all they could say
"We did see something,
sure as day!"
Page 19
Blippo got home and
Mamma was there
With butter and knife
and a chocolate eclair.
"Eat the bread first and
then you can have this
And afterwards
a hug and a kiss!"
Page 20
So Blippo ate to
his heart's content
He finished half the loaf,
he was so intent,
He looked up and
gave his mum a grin
"Oh what a pig I am,
no wonder I am not thin."
Page 21
"Ha, Ha, Ha" went
his big fat mum,
"Hippos are not thin,
my little chum
And you shouldn't be
too think anyway
Coz fat's the way
you've got to stay!
A fat hippo is his
mother's pride
A wonderful thing in
this world so wide,
And you Blippo,
my bread-loving son
I love you and for me
you are the only one!"
Page 22
So Blippo had his
bread for sure
Four slices with butter
and many more,
And from his mother
hugs and a kiss
Oh! The world was lovely
and nothing amiss!
