Tamryn was happy thanksgiving had arrived as she helped her mother get things ready for dinner in the kitchen. "Thank you mom. Mom, I say thank you to you and you say thanks to me, but what does thankful mean?"

Tamryn's mother smiled as
she explained her thought,
"Well, I feel thankful when I'm
happy for what I have."
said her mother. "Me too."
Tamryn agreed and she
took the clean potatoes
for peeling out to her father.

"Thank you, Dad. And Dad, thanks for helping me."
"You're welcome honey, that's nice of you to say."
"Well, Mom told me she is thankful for what she has, and I'm thankful for your help."
"And being thankful is also being happy for the support you get from others." her father said.

"And Thanksgiving is when you can say 'thank you' for all the things that make you happy right?"
"You got it, kiddo!" Tamryn's Dad gave her a soft hug. The doorbell rang and Tamryn went running.

"Welcome everyone and thank you for coming!" exclaimed Tamryn.
"You're welcome!" said Aunt Ida.
"Thanks for having us." replied Grandma Lu Lu.
"We are so happy to be here today!" added Uncle Mark.
"I am thankful for the family and friends I have today!" Tamryn was so excited about the celebration that she skipped out the door.

Tamryn looked out across the yard
and saw Mr. Potter raking his leaves.
"Oh, hi there, Tamryn. Happy Thanksgiving!"
"Same to you, Mr. Potter,
thank you for being my neighbor."
Mr. Potter winked and said,
"Thank you for
being such a nice kid!"

The sky was clear and bright as Tamryn turned to go back inside. She looked up and quietly said, "Thank you blue sky and thank you sun."

Loud tweeting sounds came from the large oak tree next door. Tamryn smiled and sang back, "Thank you birds and thank you tree." She skipped back inside to where her family was getting ready for dinner.

As everyone was sitting down to enjoy such a wonderful meal together, Tamryn announced, "Thank you, thank you for this yummy food, and thank you all for helping me, loving me and sharing this great day together!”

"It is so nice to hear you share your feelings today, honey," Tamryn's mother said "And, we are all grateful for what we have today." Smiles and hugs were shared all around the table and the family enjoyed a fine meal.

After all the food was gone, Tamryn didn't forget about feeling thankful. "Thank you for this full tummy," she said as she rested with her Grandma.
"Thank you for this sweet granddaughter." Her grandma made a nice pillow after a long day.

When the day was done and the family was trickling out, Tamryn went up to bed with her mom and dad. Even in her sleepy state she still found things to be thankful for, "Thank you for this warm bed, and my favorite book," she said with a yawn.

Tamryn's parents left her alone after saying good night and before she dropped off to sleep she looked up to the stars and whispered, "Thank you for thanksgiving."
