Robin Hood lived with his band of Merry Men in the Forest of Sherwood. Among his friends were Will Scarlett and Little John, who was not little but in fact big and jolly. His laugh shook the whole forest.
Page 2
The King lived in a castle on the hill.
Robin Hood and his friends lived in the
forest that was near the same hill.
Page 3
The King was known throughout
the kingdom for being unfair.
Many people in his kingdom were poor
and could not afford bread.
They wanted to work,
but there was little
work to be found.
Page 4
The King also had a sister, Maid Marian. Maid Marian was beautiful, as well as kind. She would frequently go from house to house and give out loaves of bread. The townspeople loved her very much.
Page 5
Robin Hood saw Maid Marian on one of her missions to deliver bread and thought that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever met. He decided that he would help her assist the townspeople who were hungry.
Page 6
Robin Hood knew that the King kept a
huge amount of bread, tasty fruit,
and meat in a large room of his castle.
Page 7
Robin Hood and his men often would go and
steal some of the King's food for themselves,
since they had very little, living in the forest.
Page 8
Robin Hood brought Will Scarlett and
Little John with him on his mission.
Page 9
He hoped that Maid Marian would see
him and think that he was also kind and good.
Page 10
Sneaking into the King's storeroom,
Robin Hood, Will Scarlett, and Little John
took baskets of bread, fruit, and
delicious meats. Little John was able to
carry five baskets at a time,
he was so tall and large.
Page 11
Then, they walked throughout the town
at night and gave everyone who needed
it a basket of food.
Page 12
Children looked out of the window and
marveled at how large Little John was.
Robin Hood hoped that Maid Marian would
see him, but it was night and she was asleep.
Page 13
The next day, all of the townspeople told Maid Marian about the kind deed that Robin Hood and his men had done for them. "We have food now, where we did not before!" they said to her.
Page 14
"I must find this Robin Hood," Maid Marian thought. She went into the forest to find their secret camp, hidden in the trees. She saw a large fire then and men sitting all around it. A very large man, Little John of course, was playing a guitar and singing songs. Everyone was laughing and smiling.
Page 15
Robin Hood saw Maid Marian watching them.
"She has come to thank me!" he thought and he invited her to join in the singing and dancing.
Page 16
Maid Marian said to Robin Hood and his men,
"I know that the people are hungry in the town, but you should not steal."
Page 17
Robin Hood felt ashamed,
and told his men to steal
no more from the King.
Page 18
"I will tell my brother, the King, to give the food to everyone, so that you will not have to steal it," said Maid Marian.
Page 19
Everyone in the town came to gather around
Robin Hood and his men's campfire to celebrate and dance,
and no one in the kingdom went hungry again!
