It was a lazy summer morning. Anna and Max were watching TV.
Mom had a surprise for them. “Let's go to the zoo!” she said.

At the Wild Africa exhibit,
a lion sat on top of a tall rock.
He let out a loud roar!
Page 3
Max climbed onto a rock nearby. He put his hands on his knees and stuck out his tongue.
“I am a lion,” he said. “ROAR!”

In the Rain Forest World, some
monkeys swung high in the
trees. Others walked on all
fours on the ground.

Anna bent forward, stretching her legs and her back.
She placed her hands on the ground. Then she walked
like a monkey. “Quit monkeying around!” Max said.

“You are doing a kind of exercise called yoga,” Mom said. “Animals do yoga every day! Some poses are even named for animals, like that cobra.”
Page 7
Max tried the cobra pose.
He lifted his head like a snake.
“Ssss!” he hissed.

Anna spotted a turtle.
She stretched out her legs
and bent forward.
“Look, I am a turtle.”

“You better hide in your shell,
Turtle. I am a hungry
crocodile!” Max opened and
closed his mouth with a snap!

Anna saw a bright pink bird
standing on one leg. She bent
one knee and balanced on her
other leg.
“Look! I am a flamingo.”
Page 11
“Me too!” Max said. But he was a wobbly flamingo!
“Keep practicing,” Mom told Max.

“Yoga helps make your body strong and flexible.
It's fun and it feels good! This visit to the zoo really
brought out the animal in you!” laughed Mom.
