One bright, clear winter day in the Arctic, Little Bear was rolling and tumbling in the snow. He rolled and tumbled for so long he didn't realize how far away from Mother Bear he was.
"Little Bear, where are you?" called Mother Bear. "Come here, my little one."

"Mama, I'm here!" shouted Little Bear.
"Look what I can do!" Little Bear tried to do a somersault-
he rolled and tumbled until he fell next to Mother Bear's paws.
"That looks like a lot of fun, Little Bear," Mother Bear said.
"But next time, don't wander away without telling me first.
I don't want you to get lost."
Page 3
"Get lost? That could never happen!" Little Bear said.
Then he started to look a little worried. "Could it?"

Mother Bear hugged Little Bear.
"If you ever get lost, stop and look up at the sky.
There you will see the Great Bear and Little Bear stars.
Watch the stars and wait for me to find you."

"It's time to go home now, Little Bear,"
said Mother Bear. She sniffed the air.
"I smell a storm coming."
But Little Bear wasn't listening.
"The snowflakes look like birds!" he exclaimed.
He chased the snow, going round and round until he was dizzy.

The wind stopped. Little Bear looked around,
but he couldn't see Mother Bear anywhere!
"Mama," he called. "Mama, where are you?"
Little Bear was afraid and wanted to search
for Mother Bear. Then he remembered
what his mother had said.

Little Bear sat down and looked up, hoping to see
the Great Bear and Little Bear stars shining brightly.

Then he gasped!
"Like me and Mama," Little Bear whispered as
he traced the outline of the bears shimmering in the sky.

Little Bear looked away from the stars.
He saw a large, white body running toward him.
"Oh, Little Bear," Mother Bear said. "I was so worried!"
"It's okay, Mama," Little Bear said bravely.
"I was scared, but I sat down, watched the stars,
and waited for you, just like you said."
"You did a great job," Mother Bear said. "Now let's go home."

As he was falling asleep, Little Bear remembered one more thing.
"I saw something when I looked at the sky, Mama."
"What did you see, Little Bear?"
"I saw you and me..."
