My EVEN day started
when I saw EIGHT beds,
discovered SIX closets,
and Mom had TWO heads!
Page 2
At breakfast my Mom flipped
FOUR flapjacks to eat.
I noticed my TWO shoes
were both for left feet.
Page 3
"Today is your field trip. Here's soup in a sack,
and TEN watermelons are in your backpack."
Page 4
Our teacher Miss Dodd said,
"Pair off TWO by TWO.
Board the bus with a buddy;
we're off to the zoo!"
Page 5
I grinned at the end
of the long, bumpy ride.
Our zoo guides were kangaroos—
TWO, side by side.
Page 6
We hopped to our first stop,
the elephants’ house.
They each had FOUR trunks
and were spraying a mouse.
Page 7
The fierce lions roared
and flapped SIX giant wings,
while gators with antlers wore
EIGHT golden rings.
Page 8
The reptile exhibit with lizards
and snakes had boa constrictors
that juggled TEN cakes!
Page 9
We giggled when we saw TEN eyes and EIGHT tails,
SIX feathers, FOUR humps, and TWO long fingernails.
Page 10
“See the wild Scramblesaurus,” we read on the sign.
It looked patched together — scales covered its spine.
Page 11
We rode back to school,
paired again TWO by TWO,
on my ODD, EVEN day—
I sure hoped it was through.
Page 12
At home, I was eager
for bedtime that night,
hoping the next day
my world would be right.
Page 13
Next morning I woke up
and saw my ONE bed.
Mom looked like normal
with just her ONE head.
Page 14
Hurray! EVEN was over! I started to laugh.
Oh no! Today must be FRACTIONS...
my hair is ONE-HALF!
