There once was a king and a queen who upon the birth of their daughter, asked seven fairies from the kingdom to be the princesses' fairy godmothers. The royal family then invited the seven fairies to a celebratory feast.

Just as they were about to eat, the queen noticed an eighth fairy in the dining room. This fairy was not a particularly kind fairy, but the king invited her to stay as it is not wise to further upset an angry fairy.

Following the feast, the fairies each presented the princess with a single present. After six of the fairies gave their gifts, the angry fairy announced that she would be giving the princess a curse instead of a present!

The angry fairy explained that the princess would prick her finger on a needle and die instantly from the wound.

Luckily, the cleverest of all the fairies had yet to present her present. Though she could not reverse the curse, the clever fairy made it so that when the princess pricked her finger, she would merely fall asleep for one hundred years and would awake to a kiss from a prince.
Page 6
Still, the king and queen knew that if their daughter were to fall asleep for one hundred years, it would be as if she had died for by the time she woke, the king and queen will have passed on.

Years passed and the princess was wandering in the woods when she stumbled upon a hidden cottage. Inside was an elderly woman who befriended the princess. The old woman taught the young princess many things, including how to sew.
Page 8
The princess had been warned many times by her parents and fairy godmothers about the curse, but because she was young and naive, the princess didn't understand how serious a curse could be.
Page 9
It was not long after their first lesson that the princess pricked her finger and fell fast into a sound sleep. The old woman, not knowing of the curse, yelled for help. Finally, the king arrived to take his sleeping beauty back to the castle.

The king called upon the clever fairy and they talked of how scared the princess will be when she wakes a century later. The fairy offered to put the entire kingdom to sleep, and the desperate king, said it should be so.
Page 11
The story of sleeping beauty and her sleeping kingdom spread through many lands and many princes came to attempt to wake her.
Page 12
Finally, on the eve of the last day of the ninety-ninth year, a curious prince came to the sleeping kingdom he had heard so many stories of. The prince passed the sleeping plants and trees. He entered the castle and saw sleeping chefs, maids, and pets. He even saw the sleeping king and queen. Finally, he found the sleeping princess and kissed her.

Immediately, the princess' eyes opened. As the prince told the tale of how he came to her, the rest of the kingdom woke.

The king and queen invited the entire kingdom and the prince came to the castle to celebrate. Exactly a year later, the king and queen invited the kingdom to the castle again, but this time it was to celebrate the marriage of the prince and sleeping beauty.
