Katie, Jason and Lisa had a very silly Daddy. He was probably the silliest Daddy in the whole world. Katie, Jason and Lisa never knew what he would do next, but he always made them laugh.
One day, the three children were playing outside on a nice warm summer's day. All of a sudden, Daddy came out and said, "Let's all go for a walk while Mommy finishes making dinner."

Katie and Jason moaned.
"Do we have to?" asked Katie.
"It's too hot!" grumbled Jason.
"I want to go!" chirped Lisa, with a big grin.
Lisa always liked to go with Daddy,
because he was sure to do something silly.

The three kids followed Daddy down the street and around the corner to the busy shopping street. They loved to look in the Pet Store.
"You can have a look in the Pet Store," said Daddy, "but then I want to go to the Garden Center to buy a new shovel and rake."

Katie, Jason and Lisa walked around the Pet Store and looked at all the animals. Their favorite dog was there. He was a little brown and white cocker spaniel, who jumped up and down when he saw them.
"WHY can't we have a dog, Daddy?" asked Katie. "You KNOW we've always wanted a pet."
"Yes," said Jason, "we'll take care of it, I promise."
"I want a worm for MY pet," said Lisa.

"Come along now, kids," replied Daddy, without answering them. "It's time to go the Garden Center." Disappointed, Katie, Jason, and Lisa trotted along behind Daddy.

When Katie, Jason, Lisa and Daddy reached the Garden Center, Daddy told the kids that they could go look at the goat. The goat had a special enclosure at the Garden Center.
The kids walked over to the goat and looked at him. He bleeted at them and made them laugh. He was so funny!
Meanwhile, Daddy was talking to the owner of the Garden Center. Daddy bought a new shovel and rake.

Daddy walked over to the kids with a big smile on his face. He showed Katie, Jason, and Lisa a big key and a leash. He then opened the gate to the goat's enclosure.

"What are you doing, Daddy?" asked Katie.
"Are you allowed in there?" questioned Jason.
"Can I come too?" said Lisa.
Daddy walked over to the goat and attached the leash to the goat's neck collar.
"Now," Daddy said proudly, "let's have fun with this goat! We are going to take him home to Mommy."

The kids were delighted. Katie, Jason and Lisa took turns in holding the leash as they walked the goat through the busy shopping street. Everybody stared at them, and they smiled in return. Daddy said "Good afternoon" to everyone. Nobody had ever seen a goat on a leash walking down the street before, and nobody had seen anyone as silly as Daddy!

When Daddy, Katie, Jason, and Lisa reached their house, Daddy told the kids to take the goat into the back yard. There he could graze on their beautiful green lawn and colorful flowers.
Katie, Jason and Lisa watched the goat munch away.
"Hooray!" they shouted. "Daddy has bought us a real pet."
"This is even better than a worm," squealed Lisa.

All of a sudden, Mommy's horrified face appeared at the window.
"My flowers!" she yelled. "That animal is eating my beautiful flowers!" she gasped "and it's ruining my wonderful lawn!"

Daddy talked to Mommy and tried to calm her down, but he wasn't able to. Mommy came running out of the house, waving her arms madly around and shouting, "Shoo! shoo! Get off my grass, get off my flowers!"
Daddy followed her out.

"I thought you would be pleased that I brought a goat home to you," he told her.
"Oh, how could you be so silly!" Mommy replied. "Nobody has a goat for a pet."
"Well," said Daddy, "I don't see why not. The kids are happy with him."
"We absolutely cannot keep a goat for a pet!" insisted Mommy.
"Okay, dear," said Daddy with a puzzled look on his face.

Katie, Jason, and Lisa were sad to return the pet goat, but they understood why Mommy was upset. The goat had eaten all of her flowers and grass!
Daddy and the kids walked the goat all the way back to the Garden Center. Everybody on the busy shopping street smiled at them as they passed by.

"Now can I have a worm, please?" asked Lisa.
