Once upon a time, there lived a family of fairies: a daddy fairy who was a teacher at the fairy school, a mommy fairy who was a doctor at the fairy hospital, and a daughter fairy named Megan.

One day, while they were eating dinner, Megan asked a question: "Mom? Dad? Am I old enough to make it be spring?"
Page 3
Her parents considered it. Usually, one of them went around the neighborhood at this time of year and brought springtime to plants and animals, but maybe Megan was old enough. "Okay," they said. "You can bring spring in this year!"

Megan flew out of her chair and hugged her Mom and Dad. "Thank you!" she said, "Can I start right now? It's almost the end of March, that's when springtime starts, isn't it?"

Her parents said yes, and Megan flew around the neighborhood. "Wake up," she whispered to the sleeping flowers. "Wake up! It's Springtime!" She touched them and they woke up, stretching from their long winter's nap. The flowers poked their heads out of the ground and smiled, blooming in the sun.

Megan flew into the birds' nests. "It's springtime! I've brought you your voices!" and she sprinkled a golden dust onto the birds. They opened their mouths and began to sing a song.

Megan found the grass and made it grow. She touched all the trees and made them sprout new leaves. She made the sun shine brighter.

She brought out puppies and baby animals to play on the new grass, in the warm sunshine.

When she finished, she looked back at the work she had done. Everything looked like spring: the grass was green, the birds were singing, the flowers were blooming- but something looked wrong.

Megan went home, a little disappointed. Her mom asked her how it had gone, and Megan said, "I did it, but it doesn't feel like spring yet. The birds are singing too softly, the flowers still look sleepy, and the grass is not green enough...What did I do wrong?"
Page 11
"Oh, you didn't do anything wrong," said her mom. "We're springtime fairies, and we help make spring. That's our magic power. But for REAL spring to come, we have to wait for Mother Nature. She will strengthen your birds, flowers and grass. With her final touches, it will finally feel like the spring we all love!
Page 12
"But who is Mother Nature? And where is she?" Megan asked.
"Mother Nature makes the seasons change," her mom said. "We have to wait for her very patiently, and as much as we want spring now, Mother Nature will know the best time. We fairies can do a little bit, and you just did. Now we have to wait."

"Look!" Megan's mom pointed out the window. Megan looked and saw flowers in the flower bed lifting their heads even higher, their colors growing even stronger. "She's coming! Mother Nature is bringing spring- and you were just in time!"
