It was chore day around the Flauts
and Phil was taking the garbage out.
His mom asked when he was done
if he could take their pup for a run.

The little pup- whose
name was Snout was happy to
have a chance to go out.
Page 3
But Phillip had a mean way of having fun-
to wear Snout out by being the faster one.
Phillip's legs can really stretch far,
but Snout can run almost as fast as a car.
Page 4
The two dashed up
Peekaboo Parkway
And it was there
that Phil started
to break away!

He did a double back flip like he was a trout
'cause that's how he became FLOPPITY Phillip Flaut!

From Peekaboo to Cabbage Head Run, Phil darted.
Snout sat there wondering, "Have I been outsmarted?"

Outsmarted? No, not our little Snout...
He had a different idea he was thinking about.

Phil took to
the air, flying over
everything in sight
And when he jumped over Miss Bibby, he gave her a fright!

Meanwhile, down the Hill's
driveway flew our friend Snout.
He was running so fast
some wings he might sprout!

Mr. Hill wanted the
oil changed in his
car so he left it in his sons' care
But Snout knocked over the oil and,
guess what? It spilled everywhere.

Snout was having a great time splashing around in the slime
But not anyone else thought it was a good time.

Phillip cut through the workshop of his Granddaddy Stout
where he stepped on a tube of his Grandpop's grout.
Page 13
That grout flew like toothpaste popping out of a tube-
It squirted all over Phil, every inch of his four foot two.
Page 14
It was getting late and both saw the sun start to set,
So they headed home, Phil, and Snout, his pet.

From opposite directions,
came Phil and Snout,
And as they got closer,
here came Mrs. Flaut.
"Oh my goodness, you two!
Look what you've done!
I told you to take the garbage OUT,
not put it on!"

"And, what is THIS?" she said,
getting a handful of grout.
"I think it'll be a very long time before you two go out."

"Then, she laughed so hard her tears began to run.
Look at you two- what a mess you've become!"
Page 18
She hugged Phil, then she hugged Snout
and, she, too, got all covered with oil and grout!
