It was a dark and spooky Halloween night when we first heard the unusual noise. "Hic, Hic, Hic."
We had never heard that sound while Trick-O-Treating before and it wasn't coming from the owl in the tree. I had to find out what it was.
Page 2
That's when we came to the town's graveyard and heard it again. "Hic, Hic, Hic." "It's coming from over there!" I said to my little sister. The noise had come from behind a giant gravestone. She fussed and said, "I don't want to go in there to look."
Page 3
But I had to look; I needed to find out what that noise was. So I squeezed my sister's hand and said, "It's okay Sally, there isn't anything to be afraid of." And we walked over to the gravestone.
Page 4
We crept closer and closer until we heard the noise again. "Hic, Hic, Hic." When I peeked around the gravestone, I couldn't believe my eyes. A real-life mummy was sitting on the ground crying!
Page 5
I cleared my throat and said, "Hello!" But that made the mummy jump in fright and yell, "AAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
Page 6
He then hid behind another gravestone. "I didn't mean to scare you. I was just curious about that noise you were making." I said to the mummy.
Page 7
The mummy looked out from behind the gravestone and said, "Sorry, you spooked me."
Page 8
Then he smiled and said, "Hey they're gone, thank you! I've heard that a good scare will cure the Hic...Hic, Hic. Oh no they're still there!" "You have the hiccups?" asked my little sister.
Page 9
The mummy nodded and asked, "Can you HIC...two help me Hic... get rid of these hiccups HIC?" What could we do? We just had to help him, and so we did.
Page 10
First we had the mummy pat his head and rub his stomach. But that didn't work. We tried the eating peanut butter trick next, but that didn't work either. Neither did holding his breath, the poor mummy just turned blue!
Page 11
"What about hanging upside down? Grandma always says that works!" My little sister suggested. And so the mummy climbed up the nearby tree and hung by his legs, but again, "Hic, Hic, Hic!" went the mummy.
Page 12
Then we gave pepper a try and made the mummy sneeze. When that didn't work we balanced a pumpkin on his nose. We even gave hot sauce a try. It was no use; he just continued to go, "Hic, Hic, Hic!"
Page 13
Finally, we spun the mummy around in circles thinking that he'd be too dizzy to have the hiccups. Nope, he still had the hiccups!
Page 14
After a long time all three of us sat and thought real hard about finding a cure for the hiccups. we thought, and thought, and thought, until my little sister said, "Hey! You're not hiccupping anymore!"
Page 15
The mummy smiled and said, "You cured me! Thank you so much!" I was so happy for him, now we could get back to Trick-O-Treating.
Page 16
"That's great," I said, "Congrat 'Hic', Oh Noooooo 'Hic', now I've 'Hic' got the hiccups!"
