During a game of fetch, Gelert heard cries coming from the castle so he ran home. Prince Lyle thought Gelert was lost. After hours of searching, the sad prince went back to the castle alone.

Prince Lyle was not happy because he thought Gelert had harmed the baby. Without thinking, the prince took Gelert to the door and closed the door behind him.

Just as poor Gelert ran into the night, the prince heard his baby's cry. Prince Lyle went back over to the crib, and saw that behind it was his son, unharmed next to a slain wolf.

Gelert had clearly killed the wolf in order to protect the prince's son. Prince Lyle was so saddened by his mistake that he spent the rest of his days searching for his adoring dog.

Years later, the kingdom became known as Gelert, and the people would always tell the tale of Prince Lyle and how he learned to never place blame without reason again.
