The cat just sat in the chair.
Her eyes were fixed in a stare.
Like a lion protecting her lair,
the cat just sat in the chair.
Page 2
Now a mouse poked his head in the air. His belly had nothing in there.
He was eyeing some cheese and a pear.
He was thinking of taking a dare.
He'd have to go right past the chair.
The one with the cat, yes, THAT chair. So he paused for a moment of prayer...and then dashed toward the food over there.
Page 3
The mouse ran past the cat in the chair. But she sat there, as if unaware.
Her eyes were still fixed in a stare.
The cat just sat in the chair.
Page 4
The mouse arrived at the cheese and the pear, and his hunger was too much to bear. So he broke off a large cheesy square, and tore off a hunk of that pear.
Page 5
He ate without stopping for air.
For a moment he hadn't a care.
And then he remembered the chair,
and the cat that was just sitting there.
Page 6
The mouse felt a wave of despair,
and he knew he had better beware,
because the cat was now gone from the chair.
Where had she gone?
Where? Where?? WHERE???
Page 7
The mouse froze when he felt hot cat air on the back of his neck -- what a scare!
Then he leaped on a wing and a prayer...
Page 8
... but was caught by the tail, in midair!
Page 9
The mouse thought it would end then and there.
And he cried, "This is all so unfair!"
Then the poor mouse began to prepare to be eaten...Oh, what a nightmare!
Page 10
But the cat then said something quite rare.
"I'm sorry I gave you a scare.
If you'd asked me for cheese and a pear,
I would have been happy to share!"
Page 11
From that moment on, I declare,
they became quite a comical pair...
a mouse that ate cheese and a pear, while the cat just sat in the chair.
