Once upon a time, there was a little old woman who lived in a little old house with her little old husband.

They had no children, so the little old woman decided she would bake a boy out of gingerbread. She mixed the batter, rolled out the dough, and cut out the shape of a boy.

She gave him yellow icing hair and blue icing clothes. She gave him green candy eyes and a red candy mouth. Then, she put him in the oven to bake.

Finally, the kitchen timer went off and the little old woman bent down to take her gingerbread boy out of the oven.

But, just as she opened the oven door, the gingerbread boy jumped up and ran out the door singing, "Run, run, run as fast as you can! You can't catch me because I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

The gingerbread boy ran and ran. He came across a hungry cow, but the gingerbread boy just ran faster singing, "I ran away from a little old woman, I ran away from a little old man, and I'll run away from you! I can, I can 'cause I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

The gingerbread boy ran and ran. He came across a fox, but the gingerbread boy just ran faster singing, "I ran away from a little old woman, I ran away from a little old man, I ran away from a hungry cow, I ran away from a hungry horse, I ran away from a hungry pig, and I can run away from you! I can, I can 'cause I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

Oh gingerbread boy, the fox replied, "I am not hungry. Even if I was, you don't look very tasty. So, you don't have to run from me."
Page 11
The gingerbread boy was very relieved. He was tired from running and decided to take a nap.

Just as the gingerbread boy closed his green candy eyes, the fox gobbled him up!

I'll gobble you up!, the fox said while chewing, "I can, I can 'cause I'm a clever man!"
